Canal D' Amour

Utmost northwest of Corfu, in the very corner, you will find a wonderful and very special natural phenomenon named Canal d'Amour- literally Canal of Love. With a name like that, you may wonder what it is. The fact is that it is a wonderful attraction, a must to visit during your holiday on Corfu. Not only because of its amazing natural beauty, the Canal d'Amour is worthwhile visiting. There are few local legends connected to these rocks. One of them is that every couple who swim in the Canal of Love, will always stay together until the end of their days.
Unfortunately, the legend does not mention if they always stay happily together. So if there are always tiffs and wrangles and sometimes you fed up with the strife and thinking of moving on then maybe it is not such a good idea to go for a swim together in the Canal. The second version is the most unlikely: Any unmarried girl who swims in the Canal of Love thinking of the man of her dreams, will bump into him the very same holiday, so the legend tells. However, there are persistent rumours that this version was created by the young male population of this charming coastal Corfiot village, who often believe they are Casanova. Nevertheless, not everyone thinks this story is figment of one's imagination; witness the fact by seeing the masses of attractive young ladies jumping into the Canal, all with a look in their eyes varying from sultry to very happy.
Then there is another small legend that does not really matter. If the sun is not shining in the water, you can make a wish. Therefore, at night it should be very crowded there. Well, the Greeks are great storytellers. Of course, you can always make a wish, sun in the water or not. Granting wishes is not guaranteed in this legend.

New Fortress in Corfu Town

                               Photo taken by my friend

The New Fortress of Corfu (GreekΝέο ΦρούριοVenetianFortezza Nuova) is a Venetian fortress built on the hill of St. Mark in Corfu in stages. The original architect of the fort was the military engineer Ferrante Vitelli. The current buildings which exist within the fortress were built by the British during their rule of the island (1815–63).At the top of the castle there is a stone building which was used for defence and a brick building which in modern times functions as the headquarters of the Naval Station of Corfu. The Venetian fortifications were later expanded by the British and the French to help defend against a possible Turkish attack.

Corfu, Kerkyra, Greece

Corfu or Kerkyra is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea. It is the second largest of the Ionian Islandsand, including its small satellite islands, forms the edge of the northwestern frontier of Greece. The island is part of the Corfu regional unit, and is administered as a single municipality. The municipality includes the island Corfu and the smaller islands EreikoussaMathraki and Othonoi
 Pontikonisi (Greek meaning "mouse island")

The nearby island, known as Pontikonisi (Greek meaning "mouse island"), though small is very green with abundant trees, and at its highest natural elevation (excluding its trees or man-made structures, such as the monastery), stands at about 2 m (6 ft 6.74 in). Pontikonisi is home of the monastery of Pantokrator (Μοναστήρι του Παντοκράτορος). It is the white stone staircase of the monastery that when viewed from afar gives the impression of a (mouse) tail which lent the island its name: 'mouse island'.

Corfu Nightscapes - A Company of Stars, 4Κ-Timelapse, Music: John Miliadis

A company of stars, ~60,000 images of magical nightscapes of Corfu by Vasilis Metallinos paired with John Miliade's musical creations on a journey from the old Fortress and the beauty of Corfu to the Full Moon and to the Stars!
If in some shots you can see the Moon or the Sun bigger, while in some other shots smaller it has to do with the magnification of the telescope or lens. In shots where the moon looks huge, the distance from the ground target is very large ~ 8+ km , while the photographs is through the telescope with a focal length of 1000 mm. When you see the moon rising behind the Old Fort, while the mountains in the distance of up to up change is because the moon moves along the ecliptic ± 5 °.
In shots with stellar tracks , you can notice the movement that make stars, which essentially is the Earth that revolves around itself with speed 1674.4 km . / Hr. In fact , the rotation period of the Earth around its axis is 23 hours , 56 minutes and 4.09 seconds and called stellar day.
